Swapping Shadows had the benefit of two very impressive performers, choreographer Yanaëlle Thiran, and Shivaangee Agrawal. In their solos, each woman confidently held the stage and working together they mirrored the eponymous shadows in interesting and effective choreography.
Maggie Foyer, Seeing DanceSwapping Shadows is a delicate and intricate duet in which two dancers trained respectively in contemporary dance and bharatanatyam follow each other’s footsteps. Their elegant encounters reveal symmetries and synchronicity as shadows shift and dancers drift towards and away from the light. Performed and reprogrammed several times since its creation in 2018, ‘Swapping Shadows’ was Shivaangee Agrawal and Yanaëlle Thiran’s first collaboration. The geometry of the choreography laid the ground for Company Concentric’s name and identity.
The entire piece was engaging throughout and with the tremendous integrity of the subtleties of movement and choreography as a whole, I was captivated by not only what I could see but even by what I couldn’t.
